LOGLINE

A burned-out musician-turned-church leader recounts his rise inside a fast-growing megachurch—and the slow, devastating realization that the place which saved his marriage may have been built on manipulation, silence, and spiritual control.

SYNOPSIS

Will Boardman was once a self-destructive musician spiraling toward oblivion. After a profound religious awakening, he finds redemption through faith, marriage, and purpose—eventually landing inside Just Another Church, a modern, booming megachurch promising authenticity, healing, and community.

As Will and his wife Olivia rebuild their fractured marriage, the church becomes their lifeline. Will’s musical talent propels him into leadership, placing him close to the charismatic and untouchable Pastor Rob. Growth explodes. Attendance skyrockets. Worship becomes performance. Faith becomes brand.

But behind the polished services and emotional sermons, Will begins to notice fractures: secret firings, pressure to perform, blurred lines between ministry and control, and a system that rewards loyalty while quietly crushing dissent.

Framed through an intimate interview with a journalist, Short of Sin unfolds as a slow-burn psychological reckoning—charting how sincere belief, unchecked authority, and personal ambition can intertwine into something quietly dangerous.

This is not a story about losing faith.
It’s a story about discovering who it was really placed in.

THEMATIC CORE

  • Faith vs. institution

  • Charisma as power

  • The cost of belonging

  • Spiritual manipulation disguised as love

  • Identity, silence, and moral compromise

TONE & STYLE

Grounded, restrained, and unsettling.
Clean compositions, controlled color palettes, and a creeping sense of unease beneath warmth and worship music.

WHY THIS STORY NOW

In an era of influencer pastors, branded belief, and collapsing trust in institutions, Short of Sin speaks directly to a generation questioning where faith ends and power begins. It explores how good intentions can coexist with harm—and how silence can be the most dangerous sin of all.
